What We Did

The Joint Protection Enterprise Network (JPEN) is an integrated information-sharing system that facilitates active communication and collaboration among the Department of Defense (DoD), the U.S. Army Criminal Investigation Command (USACIDC), Military Police, and local, state, federal, and international law enforcement agencies. JPEN allows users to post, retrieve, filter, and analyze real-world events.

Computer Sciences Corporation (CSC) was awarded a contract to develop and deliver training components to support JPEN. CSC turned to Learning & Performance Solutions (LPS) Group for assistance with developing and converting JPEN’s print-based training materials into a web-based certification training course.

Although instructor and trainee guides existed, what trainees really needed was hands-on practice with the software. The DoD wanted to immediately provide JPEN certification training to U.S. military bases nationwide in the most efficient way possible.

LPS developed a web-based training course that meets the needs of both users and site coordinators; it includes two certification tests—one for users and one for site coordinators.

LPS worked closely with CSC Subject Matter Experts to create a two-hour course to train users on the JPEN software. Key points, popup screens, and realistic scenarios emphasized critical information. Flash simulations and interactive practices were developed so learners could watch a procedure being accomplished and then actually practice the steps in the software. Self-checks in each topic reinforced the learning.

LPS integrated the latest JPEN software updates and we received positive feedback about our participation in this project.
